A love story called Oye

Oye is a rather odd name for a film but that is the title of Siddharth Narayan's latest Telugu film. And it's got an unusual tagline too which goes like this: "His first love called him Oye".

One normally calls somebody oye in the South mainly in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Oye is directed by debutant Anand Ranga and is slated to hit theatres on July 3.

First Look: ‘Preetsey Preetsey’

Maadesh, who made last year’s biggest hit ‘Gaja’ starring Darshan, has directed this film.

Pragna and Malayalam actress Udayatara play the heroines. Yogi plays a college student in this love story. This is his first "normal" character role as his other roles were deglamourised, such as a street side urchin and a cobbler.

I didn't fly to Mumbai to console Dhoni: Lakshmi Rai

Tamil actress Lakshmi Rai, who has been romantically linked with M.S. Dhoni, rubbishes reports that she flew down to Mumbai from here to console the Indian cricket skipper after the Indian team was ousted from the T20 World Cup.

A Tamil daily had published the report.

"Though I was deeply upset by India's exit from the T20 World Cup, I didn't break down into tears as reported. Neither did I fly to Mumbai to meet Dhoni to talk to him and console him... it's nothing but media's figment of imagination. I just sent a consoling message to Dhoni and that's all," said the actress.

"Actually, I'm too busy to have time for such things. Nowadays, I make it a point to even take part in the story discussion of films in which I'm working. So, this keeps me very busy," added the actress who featured in Tamil films like 'Azhagiya Aabathu' and 'Velli Thirai'.

'Sarvvam': Another visual treat from Vishnu!

Movie Review

Vishnuvardhan, who treated Kollywood to a slick visual treat in 'Billa', tries his best to make 'Sarvvam' astechnically perfect as a Hollywood film. And he has succeeded in his efforts, it seems. The only dampener is the lack of a gripping script, very much necessary for a thriller.

The director tells the story through five characters--an IT professional Karthick (Arya), Dr Sandhya (Trisha Krishnan) whom he tries to woo, Easwar, (J.D. Chakravarthy), Naushad (Indrajeeth) and his son Iman (Rohan). The director explores the role fate plays in shaping the future of these five people.

Upto the half way mark, Vishnu is establishing his characters. Then a freak accident takes place and the story takes a different turn; it becomes a thriller. The film has been immensely helped by Nirav Shah's spell-binding camerawork, Yuvan Shankar Raja's haunting background score and stunning action choreographed by Thiyagarajan.

As for acting, Arya impresses with his carefee, easygoing ways. Trisha has nothing much to do in the script. JD Chakravarthy as the villain looks menacing, but not very convincing. Though the script meanders in between, the film is worth a watch as the director has made an attempt to rework the success formula in Kollywood!

'Kabaddi' between director and producer goes on...

'Kabaddi', which was launched almost two years ago, is all set to release in the first week of July. The major reason for the delay is believed to be the rift between director Narendra Babu and actor-producer Kishore. Kishore didn't even attend the past few press meets.

'Kabaddi' was launched amidst much hype a couple of years ago. Kishore turned producer through this film and introduced his long time friend Babu as the director. Everything went on well until Babu accused Kishore ofacting in the Tamil film, 'Vennela Kabaddi Kuzhu', which had the same concept as 'Kabaddi'.

However, Kishore rubbished the director's accusations saying that though both films have Kabaddi as its backdrop, both have different stories to tell and both screenplays were different. He said that he was not a fool to act in a film with the same story, in spite of being the producer of 'Kabaddi.' But Narendra Babu went on accusing Kishore of "killing" his film.

As the film is nearing release, Kishore appeared recently in a conference and promoted the film. "The film has come up well and its better not to talk about the controversies," said Kishore.

However, director Babu repeated that both the films have a common thread. He even said that he would arrange the screenings of both the films for the press, so as to compare both the films and come to a judgement. Babu even said, he has a lot to talk but is waiting for the release.

Mallika's costly demands: Adarsh worried!

Actor-director Adarsh is back with 'Hushaar' (meaning, "Beware"). Adarsh plays the hero, wields the megaphone and pens the script for the film.

Though Adarsh is not at all exhausted handling all these responsibilities, he sure is exasperated with the demands of his heroine, Mallika Kapoor. This is the third film for Mallika in Kannada after 'Savisavi Nenapu' and 'Ganga Cauvery'.

"I happened to watch her 'Savisavi Nenapu' and was impressed with her performance. When I approached her for 'Hushaar', she readily accepted to work in the film. We were glad that she accepted our offer but her demand for luxuries during her stay in Bangalore has put us off. Mallika's accommodation bill, which was more than Rs 2 lakh, in addition to her remuneration proved too costly for us. I am not complaining. But I am not the sort to be carried away by glamour and compel my producer to spend more money on the heroine," said Adarsh.
However, he is thankful to the producer for being co-operative and has provided whatever he has asked for.

Murali in Dayal's 'Harikathe'

The moderate success of Ganesh starrer 'Circus' has not deterred director-turned-producer Dayal from churning out more movies. The director, who has been more famous for controversies than his successful movies, is back with two movies.

The first of the two movies is 'Harikathe', which will be launched in July. The film's one line is very similar to his previous hit 'Baa Baro Rasika', starring Sunil and Ramya Krishna. Murali who has tasted a few failures recently, plays the hero, while Suman Ranganath plays a prominent role in this comic thriller. The cast and crew of the film are yet to be finalised. Dayal is co-producing this film along with N Kumar.

The second film in the pipeline is 'Kaddu Muchchi' starring Diganth and Radhika Pandith. This film is a love story with contemporary politics as its background. This film will be launched in September.

‘Vadakakku Oru Hridayam’ becomes TV serial

Padmarajan’s best-selling novel, ‘Vadakakku Oru Hridayam’, is being made into a serial for Amrita TV. P. Ananthapadmanabhan, son of the legendary writer and filmmaker, writes the script and K.K.Rajeev wields the megaphone. The serial will be telecast at 7 pm, Monday through Friday, from June 8 2009.

Set in central Travancore in the 1970’s, the plot is about three women-- the timid, submissive Aswathy, the strong-willed Saraswathy and the ambitious Malini-- whose lives are inextricably linked to and influenced by Kesavankutty.

Through a handful of closely intertwined characters, Padmarajan holds up a mirror to life as it existed in Kerala almost four decades ago, and addresses issues of marriage, male-female equations and the plight of women.

A movie based on this novel was made in the late 1970’s; though it was a super hit, the narrative had focused only on selected parts of the novel.

The television version on the other hand, is a full adaptation of the classic, laying emphasis on those sections that had not been part of the movie; the serial tells the story through the eyes of Saraswathy, who was a minor character in the film.

Nayantara and Prabhudeva "tie the knot"!

A Telegu TV channel has broken news that Nayantara and Prabhu Deva tied the knot last week, in Hyderabad.

Nayantara was not in Hyderabad when rumours of her marriage broke, a source close to the actress said. The duo have refuted the rumour, there can be no denying the fact the talented two are seeing each other, say Kollywood tabloids.

"Prabhu Deva and Nayanthara got very close to each other while they were working for Vijay’s 'Villu'. Prabhu Deva's son died during the shoot and it was Nayantara who helped him overcome his deep grief," says a source.

Kollywood magazines cite "many instances" to corroborate the "affair" -- Nayan has reportedly tattooed "Prabhu" on her wrists, and has started frequenting temples (Prabhu Deva is an ardent Hindu devotee).

Prabhu, on his part, had gone on his own to Kerala to choreograph two Nayantara songs for a Malayalam movie.

Prabhu Deva is married to his former assistant Ramlath and they have three children.
