Karumadi Kuttan in Telugu
Noted South Indian actor Kalabhavan Mani's super hit Malayalam film Karumadi Kuttan (2001), directed by Vinayan, is now remade in Telugu as Konaseemalo Chitemma… Kittaiah by director Bharath Parepalli, starring Aalla Rambabu and Gurlin Chopra in the lead roles. The film is produced by Aalla Rambabu. It is believed that the original Malayalam script has been altered to suit the tastes of Telugu audiences.
Karumadi Kuttan is the story of Kuttan (Kalabhvan Mani), an orphaned and mentally challenged youth whom everyone calls 'Karumadi' on account of his dark colour. Though 30 years old, Kuttan has the intelligence of a child of ten. He does any job for anybody, but the remuneration that he asks is always a meagre five rupees.
He loves his cousin Nandinikutty (Nandini) and nurses a desire to marry her (there is a custom of marrying cousins in Kerala). But Nandini does not like him and even teases him. With the arrival of Shekharan, son of a rich man Neelakantan and arch enemy of Nandinikutty's family, the movie takes an unexpected turn.
Karumadi Kuttan, one of the best films by Kalabhavan Mani after his award-winning Vasantiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njanum (1999), had Bharathi, Rajan P. Dev, Janardanan, Ganesan, Mala and Saikumar in important roles. Scenarist J. Pallasery also appeared in a guest role in this film. Cinematography was by Azhagappan. The songs by Yusuf Ali-Mohan Sithara team, especially "Nenchudukkinte thalathuduppil" and "Innalekal, Innalekal" were super hits in Kerala.
